Each dining booth and the banquette in the Challenger Room of David’s Milwaukee Diner showcases carved leather railroad vignettes by artist Will Ghormley. “There are nine panels in the restaurant, all historic scenes of the railroad out on the prairie”. One is the story of Iowa heroine Kate Shelley, who became a national heroine when she crawled across a damaged railroad bridge in a storm, averted a railway disaster, and saved the lives of hundreds of passengers.” Ghormley sculpted and then painted the leather panels.
